2008 US Open Tennis Access for American Express Cardmembers
If you have an American Express Card you can get access to some great tickets to the 2008 US Open Tennis Championships, which run from August 25 - September 7 in New York.
From Monday, June 2 through Saturday June 7, American Express Cardmembers have access to a presale for US Open tickets. These are tickets that aren’t even available to the general public yet, and will most likely be impossible/very hard to get if you’re not a Cardmember. Tickets range from $22 - $80.
If you have a Gold Card or Platinum Card, there are a limited number of VIP seats in the lower promenade of Arthur Ashe Stadium that are available for purchase for three day sessions from August 30 - September 1. Each ticket is for one day session, and includes access to a private hospitality area with complimentary buffet and bar service. These tickets are $190 each.
You have to love the access to sports and entertainment that you get with an AmEx Card. If you don’t have one, we recommend the American Express Gold Card. Read our review or apply now.
APR Percentages Increase for Citi Premier Pass Cards
If you’re considering getting the Citi Premier Pass Card, the APR for purchases and balance transfers has been upped from as low as 11.24% to 11.99%.
If you’re interested in the Citi Premier Pass Elite Level Card, the APR for purchases and balance transfers is now 13.99%. Also the introductory offer of 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months no longer applies.
The good news is that if you’re considering either one of these cards, you probably have excellent credit, pay your bills in full each month, and could care less about APR percentages. Citi cards have some great benefits and are a good choice for a premium card.

Citi Private Pass Music Benefits and Tickets
Citi has a great entertainment access program for its cardholders called Private Pass. Through partnerships with entertainment brands and artists, Citi is able to secure tickets and special benefits to some great shows and offer its cardholders premium VIP tickets to concerts and events. Cardholders also occasionally receive the opportunity to purchase some of these tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Currently, Citi’s partnerships for ticket access to concerts include:
- Live Nation
- Gen Art
- Madonna
- The Police
- Stevie Wonder
- Counting Crows
If you have a Citi card, you can get tickets before they are on sale for most people and preferred seating packages to shows by the artists listed above. You usually purchase these tickets on Ticketmaster (with your Citi card) and just have to put in the first 6 digits of your credit card number to receive access.
In addition to these great music experiences and tickets, Citi’s Private Pass program also offers access to:
- Dining experiences
- Retail experiences
- Golf tee times (very limited)
- Upscale Night clubs in select cities
You can see a full list of what’s available on the Citi Private Pass website. While Citi’s offers are not quite comparable to the smorgasbord of offers that American Express gives you, Citi is definitely catching up, especially in music.
If you’d like access to these tickets and experiences but don’t have a Citi card, I recommend the Citi Platinum American Express Card. This card will give you access to Private Pass offers AND some of the American Express presale and VIP ticket offers. That’s hard to beat.
